Frequently asked questions
How does the inflation calculator work?
It compounds your amount by the inflation rate over the number of years. Future cost = amount × (1 + rate)^years, and the buying power of that amount later = amount ÷ (1 + rate)^years.
What inflation rate should I use?
For long-term planning in India, 5–6% is a common assumption; globally 2–3% is typical. Use a rate that matches the category — education and healthcare often inflate faster than the headline number.
What is purchasing power?
Purchasing power is how much real stuff your money can buy. As prices rise, the same amount buys less, so ₹1,00,000 today is worth far less in goods 10–20 years from now.
Is my data stored?
No. Every calculation runs entirely in your browser — nothing you enter is uploaded or saved.
How do I beat inflation?
Invest so your returns exceed the inflation rate. If inflation is 6% and your investment returns 10%, your real (inflation-adjusted) return is about 4% a year.
