How to use Speech to Text

  1. Pick your language

Choose the language you'll be speaking from the dropdown — English, Hindi, Spanish and many more are available.

  2. Press Record

Tap Record and allow microphone access when your browser asks. Recording starts immediately.

  3. Start speaking

Talk at a natural pace and watch your words appear live in the transcript. Short pauses won't stop the session.

  4. Stop when done

Press Stop to end recording. You can then edit the transcript directly to fix any words or add punctuation.

  5. Copy or download

Copy the text to your clipboard or download it as a .txt file — or clear it and start a fresh transcript.

Frequently asked questions

Is this speech-to-text tool free?

Yes, completely free with no sign-up and no limits. It uses the speech recognition engine already built into your browser (the Web Speech API), so there's no paid service or API key behind it.

Which browsers support voice typing?

It works best in the latest Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge on desktop and Android. Some other browsers, including Safari, offer partial support. If your browser can't do speech recognition, the tool will let you know.

Is my voice or transcript uploaded anywhere?

The tool itself uploads nothing and stores nothing on a server — your transcript stays in your browser. Note that the browser's own speech engine (for example Chrome) may send audio to the browser vendor's service to convert it to text; that's part of how the browser feature works, not this tool.

How do I get punctuation and fix mistakes?

The speech engine adds some punctuation automatically as you pause, and it varies by language and browser. After you press Stop, the transcript becomes fully editable, so you can quickly correct any words, add commas and full stops, and tidy it up before copying.

Can I dictate in languages other than English?

Yes. Choose your language from the dropdown before (or during) recording — English, Hindi, Spanish, French, German, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese and several Indian languages are included. Availability depends on your browser and operating system.

Why did recording stop on its own?

Browsers end a recognition session after a long silence. This tool automatically restarts it while you're still recording, so brief pauses are fine. If it stops completely, just press Record again — your existing transcript is kept.
