How to use CSS Flexbox / Grid Playground Generator
Pick a layout mode
Choose Flexbox for one-dimensional rows or columns, or CSS Grid for two-dimensional row-and-column layouts.
Adjust the container
Set flex-direction, justify-content, align-items and gap (Flexbox), or columns, rows and item alignment (Grid), from the dropdowns and sliders.
Change the item count
Add or remove preview boxes to see exactly how your rules distribute a real number of children.
Watch it live
The preview canvas rearranges instantly with every change, so you can feel what each property does before you ship it.
Copy the CSS
Click Copy CSS to grab the container rule and paste it into your stylesheet — the class is named .container by default.
Frequently asked questions
When should I use Flexbox vs CSS Grid?
Use Flexbox for one-dimensional layouts — a single row or column of items that should distribute or align along one axis (nav bars, button groups, cards in a row). Use CSS Grid for two-dimensional layouts where you control both rows and columns at once (page layouts, image galleries, dashboards). They compose well together, too.
What's the difference between justify-content and align-items?
In Flexbox, justify-content distributes items along the main axis (the direction set by flex-direction), while align-items positions them on the cross axis. So with flex-direction: row, justify-content moves items left/right and align-items moves them up/down. Switch to column and the axes flip.
What does flex-wrap do?
By default (nowrap) flex items stay on one line and may shrink to fit. Setting flex-wrap: wrap lets items flow onto new lines when they run out of room — which is when align-content also comes into play to space those lines.
How does gap work?
gap sets consistent spacing between items in both Flexbox and Grid without needing margins on each child. It's the cleanest way to space a layout because it never adds spacing on the outer edges.
Can I copy the CSS straight into my project?
Yes. The generated rule targets a .container class and uses standard, widely-supported CSS. Rename the class to match your markup, paste it into your stylesheet, and give the element that class.
Is anything uploaded?
No. All layout and CSS generation happens in your browser. Nothing you configure is sent to or stored on a server.
